IT Specialist – NOAA Fisheries, Office of Science and Technology (Silver Spring, MD)
Leading Solutions, LLC is seeking an IT Specialist to support the mission of NOAA Fisheries within the Office of Science and Technology by providing technical expertise in web application development, data visualization, and cybersecurity. The Web Developer is responsible for designing, developing, and maintaining user-friendly web tools and interfaces that support scientific data access, analysis, and external communications. This role ensures web platforms are secure, compliant with federal IT standards, and aligned with program goals, while enhancing the usability, functionality, and performance of digital services that support fisheries science and management.
Specific tasks include:
- Develop and maintain user-friendly, web-based data visualization tools and assessment models, including comprehensive documentation of methodologies, code, and data sources.
- Design and implement user interface features, site animations, and interactive elements to enhance user experience.
- Collaborate with design teams to improve the overall look, feel, and usability of the organization’s digital platforms.
- Ensure website architecture aligns with agency strategies and supports external communication goals.
- Implement and maintain security measures to safeguard websites, applications, and online transactions across internet and intranet environments.
- Configure and manage firewall technologies to protect network infrastructure and ensure compliance with security protocols.
- Monitor security compliance, investigate violations, and develop policies, procedures, and best practices to strengthen organizational cybersecurity posture.
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Cybersecurity, Engineering, or related field
- Minimum five (5) years of relevant IT experience
- Experience developing web applications using modern programming languages and frameworks. Strong organizational, written and verbal communication, and time-management skills
- Experience with data visualization tools and dashboard development.
- Familiarity with accessibility standards (Section 508).
- Experience implementing web security controls and supporting cybersecurity compliance efforts.
