Math Teacher – US Navy Recruit Training Command, Great Lakes, IL

Teaching math in a military environment requires strong instructional skills, the ability to adapt, motivate, and engage individuals without taking ANYTHING home, thus gaining back your work life balance.
The Math Instructor position focuses on delivering Navy approved curriculum in a 1:30 classroom ratio including the following tasks:
- Teach ASVAB math topics including Word Problems, including but not limited to:
- Basic Arithmetic
- Decimals Computation
- Fractions Computation
- Using Ratios, Proportions, and Percents in Real World Situations
- Convert between Decimals, Fractions, and Percentages
- Measures and Conversions (US Customary)
- Algebra Review: Single and Multi-step equation solving, Simplifying with Exponents, Inequalities
- Geometry Review: Interior/Exterior Angles of Polygons, Pythagorean Theorem, Area and Perimeter/Circumference, Surface Area, Volume
- Test Taking Strategies: Time management, How to approach multiple-choice questions, and Techniques for eliminating incorrect answers
- Use effective communication
- Use effective teaching techniques such as questioning
- Maintain an orderly and professional atmosphere.
- Discipline is managed by military personnel
- Manage study hall/tutoring time
- Collaborate with FSPC instructors and Curriculum Developers for teaching and delivery of Navy-approved academic curriculum
- Use basic features of Microsoft PowerPoint and Teams
- Receive feedback professionally
Qualifications:
- Must possess a bachelor’s degree, Math education preferred or related fields
- Classroom experience teaching middle school-level math or higher; college teaching is acceptable
- Possess interpersonal skills, resilience, and organization
- Deliver content effectively, efficiently, and with fidelity
- Ability to gain familiarity with applicable Navy expectations/course curriculum
- Complete Navy-specific training modules on the job
- Read, write, and speak fluent English
- Ability to obtain and maintain a Secret Clearance
- Must be a US Citizen
