Training Specialist – NOAA Fisheries, Remote Position

Takes curriculum input from subject matter experts and creates training slide decks, interactive activities (online and in-person), worksheets, and training tools for use in instructional settings, including in-person, hybrid, and online training.

Specific tasks include:

  • Develop and deploy online information portals for group activities and training.
  • Develop crowd/classroom engagement strategies using interactive/game-based activities. Develop engagement activities using tools like, but not limited to, Menti and Kahoot.
  • Implement hybrid and online training solutions, including setup of video conferencing equipment, session recording, attendance, hybrid and online facilitation, and engagement tracking solutions.
  • Develop meaningful participant surveys for use in training and outreach events.
  • Take survey data and consolidate findings into a summary form that clearly shows strengths and suggestions for improvements. Recommend adjusting the curriculum or course delivery to address feedback items when appropriate.
  • Develop technology-based strategies to enroll participants in online, hybrid, and in-person events.
  • Develop a means of automating enrollment of participants into Google Calendar meetings, including updates to enrollment.
  • Develop automated means of identifying conflicting and improper enrollments by comparing enrollment with reports on physician location, supervisory status, etc.
  • Develop and maintain enhanced spreadsheets and tracking tools used for project planning and action tracking.
  • Review existing Smartsheets and recommend enhancements and improvements to reduce manual work.
  • Update Smartsheet products to introduce workflow management, automation, and routing of approvals into special approvals (late actions, HCO approvals, atypical approvals, etc).
  • Develop Smartsheets dashboards and tools for use by senior leadership.
  • Enter events using automation, run custom reports, and maintain training records in the Department of Commerce Learning Center.
  • Provide a trainer who is capable of presenting the government-approved curriculum to a wide audience of Fisheries and NOAA personnel on acquisition-specific topics as part of the ACQ101 and CORE program.

Qualifications:

  • Must possess a Bachelor’s degree in English, Communications, Computer Science or related field.
  • Proficient in the use of MS Office Tools such as Word, Excel, Visio, and PowerPoint, and managing these files within SharePoint.
  • Minimum 4 years of experience creating audiovisual aids to support Program training. This experience includes development of eLearning programs, videos, digital and paper based training, and virtual instructor-led materials.
  • Ability to gather customer feedback on documentation to improve usability.
  • Ability to adapt rapidly to a changing industry and be able to adjust responsibilities, time, and objectives accordingly.
  • Ability to analyze and synthesize complex content.
  • Ability to write clearly and succinctly for multiple audiences using either formal or more casual tones.
  • Experience working with Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) both in-person and remote.
  • Demonstrate excellent verbal and written communications skills so they can communicate with others about the work they are performing.
  • Excellent organizational skills, attention to detail, and sound skills in written and oral communication is a must.
  • Must be able to read, write and speak fluent English
  • Must be able to pass a Federal background check
